Power of Meditation

Meditation

Meditation is a practice of making your mind calm and silent. It results in deep peace.

It is actually training our mind to relax and connect our inner self with the Universe.

Benefits of Meditation

  • Strengthens the mind, increases the sense of well-being and enhances relaxation. It also relieves anxiety and depression, helps sleep better. Many researches have shown that it helps in losing weight as well.
  • Improves mental health by reducing stress and increases the sense of peace and relaxation along with other benefits. It connects your body with your mind.
  • Helps to gain focus in whatever you do, thereby improving your efficiency.

People who have been practicing meditation for a while agree that it has changed their life for good.

How to start

It’s a practice that we have to build gradually over a period of time. Just as we cannot tone our body or muscles by lifting 10 lbs weight all of a sudden, we cannot train our mind in a single day.

It’s highly natural for a human mind to stray away by unavoidable thoughts. But with practice you can achieve this.

On the first day, select a peaceful place, start with three deep cleansing breaths and sit with eyes closed for 10 mins. Focus on your regular breathing. Your mind will be clouded with thousands of thoughts, observe the nature of those thoughts and tell them they can wait.

At the end of meditation, rub both your palms together and place them over your eyes.

If you perform the above steps for 10 mins/each day, for a week, you will reach a level, where you will want to extend your time to 15 to 20 mins. At this level, you don’t have to focus on your breathing, you will be able to sit with no unnecessary thoughts.

Technique to gain focus during meditation

  • Focus on breathing in and breathing out
  • Clear your mind
  • Concentrate between your eyebrows.
  • The thing that really works for me is taking a deep breath and chanting OM while exhaling.
  • Chanting OM (a Hindu sacred mantra) before meditation helps focus.

OM Chanting

When pronounced it is actually A-U-M,

A is pronounced as prolonged AWE the sound tracks from the back of throat and is stretched out sensing the feeling of chest vibrating

Next is U pronounced as a long OO with the throat vibrating

Last is M pronounced as a long MMM with mouth almost closed and throat vibrating.

And a little pause.

Repeat 3 to 5 times for beginners

I practice Meditation everyday. Wish you all can enjoy the benefits of meditation.

Do let me know if you have any questions or want to discuss.
